“One of the best places to stay in Asia!”

 Reviewed 17 Oct 2016

Villa Gaming is a gem - rated by the Guardian as one of top 100 holiday beach houses in Asia and we would not disagree! It is a beautiful place - approached up a long drive through the woods and set on the side of a hill overlooking the beautiful bay. It is very spacious - the main villa can comfortably sleep 6 - or 8 - at a push and there is further accommodation in a separate guest lodge if needed. We were just 4 and the spacious living areas and generous bedrooms were superb. The terrace views over the garden, hillside and bay are stunning. Everywhere is beautifully clean and equipped to a great standard. The swimming pool is lovely - and it was particularly special swimming at night accompanied by a loud frog chorus. The villa's staff were a delight - attentive and caring but not intrusive. We chose to be fully catered and the food was generally delicious - our only criticism was there was so much that we felt guilty by how much we left uneaten! the owner - Michel - is very helpful and informative. He even went to the local market for us and bought lots of wonderful interesting fruits. The stoney beach is about a 10-15minute walk down the hillside and through the trees and bushes down a rather slippery path which Michel intends to improve. We loved the geckos - particularly the large and talkative Tokays - and the flying lizards in the garden were remarkable. Our transfer from Jakarta was all arranged for us by the villa. It is a long way - 4-5 hours or more depending on traffic - so make sure you allow time to enjoy the trip and aren't pressured by tight connections - we had an overnight stay in Jakarta before our flight so could be relaxed about the 2 hours stuck in Jakarta traffic! Our driver - Mr Ojan was excellent and spoke very good English - and his vehicle is spacious and comfortable and of course air-conditioned. Would we recommend this place? - unreservedly - will we come back? - hopefully - is it one of the best places to stay in Asia - YES!

Beautiful peace of paradise, between the sea and the jungle Reviewed by: Cristina G from Perth, AustraliaReviewed on: 04/16/2016 for their stay in 04/2016589876 - Villa Gamrang - Tropical hide away on West JavaWe did love our stay at Villa Gamrang. We booked it for 5 days and arrive with the idea of doing a lot of excursions during the day. The truth is, it was hard to leave the stunning view of the huge terrace. So we just endulged and relaxed, watching the squirrels jumping from tree to tree while sipping coffee on the balinese daybed. Kids playing in the pool or looking for butterflies. Enjoying the breeze coming from the sea and the sound of the waves breaking. The villa in itself is beautiful, is all you see from the pictures but a little bit better. The staff very discreet still helpful and smiley. The location utterly stunning. Also, it was a fairly quick drive from Jakarta, as we left at 5:30 in the morning and were there by 9:30. I do look forward to go back :)

We only stayed 2 nights at Villa Gamrang and already the way to the Villa was a bit spooky...reaching the Villa it was just a relieve: the main house based on very nice wood panels , decorated with a lot of heart and personal touch welcomed us from the first second. The main bedroom is a real kick with its tremendous bathroom and the shower with great water pressure ( only the leveling of the floor seems not to be optimal as the water runs out of the shower just everywhere) The garden is just beautiful and chilling on the Veranda with several banks, seats and rest areas with this amazing view was just the biggest highlight of my 2 years stay in Java...for those who feel the need to go to the beach: it is just a 10 minute walk. From a very rocky part you reach a large dark sandy beach. The waves are rough. We actually decided that the view from above is so nice that the Beach is Not really a must have. The food also was great even though I would recommend to buy the own food and cook by myself next time as thought it was a little too expensive ... Anyway: no minus because of that ... It was our fault that we were lazy to ask the prices before. All over all: magnificent ... I enjoyed every minute! And and

Past all the hustle and bustle of Pelabuhan Ratu and the well-known resorts of the area there is this gem of a villa hidden away on a hill. We spent 4 nights at Villa Gamrang and it was simply wonderful. The villa is spacious and beautifully designed, with a keen eye for detail. Luxury and simplicity combined. All rooms, including the bathrooms, are really nice. Loved the semi-sunken bathtub. The view from the huge veranda (which sports two large daybeds, a swing and two dining tables) is amazing: ocean, mountains, way down a quiet beach, at night hundreds of little lights from the fishing boats bobbing on the waves.A steep little path runs down from the garden to the beach. The beach is partly pebbles, but sandy near the water. The ocean can be quite rough as everywhere on the South coast of Java but you can definitely go for a dip. Or build zen-art with pebbles. Or just swim in the beautiful pool at the villa. The staff is lovely and helpful, e.g. getting groceries and showing the way to different places. They cooked Indonesian fare for us, including fresh fish and seafood (there is a bbq). Nothing was too spicy and the young children also liked the food. The fruits and vegetables from the local market were very fresh and delicious. We brought some particular food and drinks from Jakarta that are not available over there, such as brown bread, cheese, and wine etc.. You can also cook yourself, which is a pleasure since the kitchen is very nice and fully equiped. It's the place for ultimate relaxation. Read a book, play a boardgame, do yoga, soak up some sun, enjoy the view, sip a drink, fall asleep to the sound of the waves, be zen. We will definitely brave the drive from Jakarta again for more of that.
